Retirement planning for people close enough that timing matters.
Tallus Wealth Management is an independent firm in Lake Oswego, Oregon. We build the plan with you, then keep working it through the year, when the decisions that change the outcome actually show up.
- Independent since 2011

Who we work with
Most of the people we work with are within sight of retirement or already there, with enough moving at once that the order of decisions starts to matter.
You are a few years out.
You want to know what the income actually looks like, which accounts it comes from, and what to do differently between now and then.
You are already retired.
The question is no longer how much you saved. It is which account to draw from this year, and what that choice costs you in tax.
You want a person, not a call center.
Some people want quick answers and nothing more. Others want to talk things through. We work either way, and we ask which you prefer.
None of this depends on a number. It depends on whether there is enough going on that the sequencing is worth the attention.
A plan written once is a plan that ages.
Plenty of planning happens once, at the start, and then sits in a folder. Ours gets revisited against what actually happened in your life this year. When something changes, we look at what it opens up while it is still open.
The moments worth watching for
Some years are ordinary. Some years open a window that is only open for a while. These are the ones we watch for.
A year when the income drops
A layoff or a gap year changes the tax picture along with everything else. It is worth looking at what a lower-income year makes possible before it passes, rather than treating it only as a budgeting problem.
Money arriving from an estate
An inherited retirement account comes with a deadline attached. How the withdrawals are spread across those years is a decision, and it is easier to make well at the start than at the end.
A year that pays unusually well
A large bonus or a sale can move you into a different bracket for one year. That is the year to revisit how you are contributing, not the year to leave the settings where they were.
The first years of retirement
Before required withdrawals begin, there is often room to decide which account to draw from and what to convert. Those years do not come back.
None of this is exotic. It is ordinary planning work, done at the point in the year when it is still worth doing.
What we actually do
Year-round planning
The plan gets built once and then reviewed against real life, with the office watching for the openings described above.
Tax-aware implementation
Gain harvesting, bracket management, conversion windows, and the order accounts are drawn from. Coordinated with your CPA where you have one.
Retirement and distribution planning
What the income looks like, where it comes from, and what changes in the years either side of retiring.
Service set to the person
Some clients want efficiency. Some want a longer conversation. We ask, and we work the way you prefer.
Estate, insurance, and long-term care
Wealth transfer, insurance, long-term care, and college planning, handled as part of the same picture rather than as separate errands.
Investment management
Low cost and disciplined, with nothing exotic in it. Non-proprietary choices through LPL Financial. The long-term difference is made by the planning decisions, not by the portfolio.
How it starts
A conversation
We talk through where you stand and what is coming up. Nothing to prepare and no obligation.
A plan you can read
We put the picture in writing: the income, the accounts, the tax exposure, and the decisions in front of you.
The year after that
We stay in touch as things change and we bring you the moves worth making while they are still worth making.
Questions people ask
- Who do you usually work with?
- Pre-retirees and retirees, most of them in the Portland area. The common thread is that there is enough going on that the order and timing of decisions changes the result.
- What does a year with you actually look like?
- We review the plan against what changed, not against what we assumed last year. If a year brings a layoff, an inheritance, or unusually high income, we look at what that specific year makes possible before it ends.
- What does independent mean here?
- The firm is not owned by a bank or a fund company, and the investment choices are not proprietary. Securities are offered through LPL Financial, and Ramin is the LPL registered representative associated with the firm.
- We spoke a while ago and then life happened. Can we pick it back up?
- Yes, and it is normal. Call the office or send a note and we will start from where the last conversation left off rather than from the beginning.
